Bank robber shot, killed
June 29-A robber wanted for four bank hold-ups in South King County in less than a week was shot and killed by a Des Moines police sergeant shortly after 6 p.m.
The unidentified man, about 40, reportedly robbed a Key Bank at 23250 Pacific Highway S. in Kent around 5:30 p.m.
Half an hour later, a man matching his description robbed a Bank of America at 707 S. 227th St. in Des Moines.
According to Des Moines police, a citizen followed the robber as he ran from the bank and pointed him out to the sergeant, a 24-year veteran with the agency.
The sergeant reportedly shot the robber with a Taser when he didn't surrender. The man then charged the sergeant, who fired his handgun at him.
He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he was pronounced dead.
The officer was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
The FBI said the man was also a suspect in robberies at a Washington Mutual branch in Des Moines and a bank in Kent earlier in the week.
