This is a thank you letter about some valuable volunteers, starting with Dan Satterberg, King County's acting prosecuting attorney.
Many public figures show up at charity events, make speeches, and then leave. As a graduate of Highline High School, Dan came to the June 23 Relay for Life of Highline cancer fundraiser at Highline Memorial Stadium.
He gave a short and very personal, moving speech about the importance of supporting cancer research. He thanked us for our volunteer work. Then, he joined the Highline Arts Team and ran several laps for us.
This was extremely helpful because some of our team members could not arrive until much later in the day. We are grateful for Dan's dedication and inspiration.
Another helpful young man was state Rep. Dave Upthegrove, who came to the Relay not to make a speech, but to be supportive. He also ran several laps for our Highline Arts Team.
We also were fortunate to have the assistance of former Burien City Councilmember Stephen Lamphear, who joined us at the last minute to assist our relay team members. He arrived after already volunteering at the Strawberry Festival, saying, "How can I help?"
