Steel Lake stormed deep into the District 10 Senior Little League baseball tournament with three straight wins to open the action last week.
The team opened by outscoring Bellevue Thunderbird by an 11-9 score in the action in Vancouver, Wash. before beating up Fort Vancouver, 9-3.
Sky Valley was the next victim in a close 3-0 game before a loss caught up, 7-4, against EJ/SJ/PT.
Steel Lake set itself up needing to win one game to get to the state championship before needing two wins to take the title after it got there.
A rematch against EJ/SJ/PT was the undefeated team waiting for an opponent after press time. The final was scheduled for Saturday if weather allowed.
National 9 and 10
The Federal Way National age 9-10 team fought hard in the tournament but bowed out in two games.
National took a 7-6 loss to Eastlake in the action in Vancouver, Wash. before falling to Pasco National, 5-2.
10 and 11 softball
Steel Lake started off strong in the tournament played at Battle Ground in southwest Washington.
Steel Lake opened with a narrow, 7-6, win over Stilly Valley before beating Eastlake, 22-7. But Bainbridge dealt the team a 12-10 loss Thursday to put it on the brink.
