The Federal Way City Council is accepting applications to fill vacancies on the city's Youth Commission.
Members of this commission serve as an advisory body to the City Council, other city commissions and city staff on issues such as youth programs, recreational activities, dance clubs and other issues of importance to youth.
The 13- member commission meets on the third Wednesday of the month at 5:00 p.m.
Commissioners shall reside within the Federal Way School District boundaries during their terms.
Members are appointed to serve two-year terms, unless appointed during their senior year, in which case they serve one-year terms; all commissioners serve without compensation.
The City Council will select commission members representing a diverse cross-section of the service schools.
Nine commissioners may be chosen from the service areas of Federal Way, Decatur, Thomas Jefferson and Todd Beamer High Schools. Two members may be selected from Truman High School and two members from Contract Based Education.
Sophomores, juniors and seniors at a Federal Way high school, or ninth-graders who will attend a Federal Way high school in the second year of appointment, are eligible.

The deadline for submitting completed applications has been extended until Friday, August 24, 2007.
