I was disappointed with the Herald's coverage of the release of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."
The article chronicles the events at Barnes and Noble only. West Seattle does have other booksellers. What about Square One Books in Jefferson Square - West Seattle's Neighborhood bookstore?
Gretchen Montgomery and Matthew Mors, the owners of Square One Books, used this event to help a local charity. For every book sold prior to the release, Square One donated $5 to Westside Baby, a local West Seattle charity. People pre-buying the book were also invited to a special viewing of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" at West Seattle's Admiral Theater.
With the release of book six, they donated $5 from presales to a local school. This is the spirit that binds West Seattle as the "small" and friendly community we are, not the typical chain store "event" to get in the door. This local community-building event should have been covered and I am amazed the Herald missed it as it was advertised in your paper - in full color.
