D'oh! At 2 a.m. Thursday, an officer was driving on the South Park Bridge, when she noticed donuts scattered all over the road. A delivery driver then ran into view and said that a man had hijacked his pastry truck. The driver wasn't sure which way the thief had gone, but the officer was able to follow the donut trail until it ended near Highway 599. A short time later, an officer driving on Delridge spotted the truck speeding through a construction zone with its headlights off. The driver finally stopped-on flattened tires-in the High Point neighborhood. He admitted he was drunk, had been "taking drugs all night" and commandeered the truck only because he couldn't get a cab.
South of the Junction, a transient--whose last known address was in Spokane-was breaking bottles and throwing things in an alley. He explained to officers that he was sending a message to "the people in the dark" and that he was tired of them lying about other people's problems. He admitted that he was not taking his anti-depressants and that, indeed, he was depressed. Officers had him transported to Harborview for an examination.
Monday afternoon, a citizen living near 33rd and Cloverdale called 911 to report a man was knocking on doors and asking suspicious questions. Officers soon found the 20-year-old, who was polite but admitted he is bi-polar and no longer takes his medication. He claimed to work for a company whose van drops him off in Seattle to ask for money. He was interviewed and released.
Operators received several calls about an unsupervised child playing in the road on 23rd SW late Friday. The boy's father claimed he didn't know the boy was in the street, and told officers that the child was hard to take care of. Officers noted that the child was very dirty, smelled of urine, and was constantly scratching himself. Dad said he was enrolled in school but couldn't say which one. Child Protective Services has been alerted to the situation.
Near the Junction, a man who claimed to be a house painter tried to convince a 13-year-old girl to let him inside her family's home. The savvy girl questioned him repeatedly, refused entry and reported the incident to her father, who called police. Dad also called the company which had painted the units and was told that the suspect was no longer employed there. He is a Hispanic male with hair in dreadlocks.
Saturday afternoon, a different 13-year-old girl was walking on Barton, near Target, when a black male with dreadlocks drove by in a red Honda, abruptly stopped the car and told her to get inside. She ran into the Target store and asked security to call 911.
Officers were called to a West Seattle hotel after housekeepers found a purse with multiple credit cards discarded in a trash can. Officers questioned the two men who had rented the room (both were wanted on outstanding warrants). One of the men had 29 gift cards in his wallet. He was booked into King County Jail where, during a search, a jailer found methamphetamine in his underwear. The other suspect was questioned and released. Fraud investigators are keeping an eye on the case.
