Battle in Burien for Lamphear and Shaw

Former Burien City Councilman Stephen Lamphear will challenge current Councilman Gordon Shaw in the November general election for Shaw's seat.
Lamphear and Shaw were the top two vote getters for Position 4 in the Aug. 21 primary election.
North Highline annexation foe J. Fulop finished third.
Lamphear outpolled the incumbent with 1,496 votes (39.32 percent) in unofficial returns through Aug. 24.
Shaw received 1,388 votes (36.48 percent), and Fulop 904 votes (23.76 percent).
Updated returns are available by 4:30 p.m. each weekday at www.metrokc.gov/elections/200708/results.asp.
The election will be certified on Sept. 5.
In Tukwila, Kathy Hougardy (683 votes, 54.12 percent) and Brian P. Kennedy (322 votes, 25.52 percent) will vie for Position 2 on the city council, former held by Pam Carter, in the November election. DeSean Quinn received 250 votes (19.81 percent).
Carter will face Councilman Jim Haggerton, whose term does not expire this year, in the November election for mayor. Mayor Steven Mullet is not seeking election to a third term.
Burien City Councilman Jack Block Jr. failed in his bid to follow his father onto the Port of Seattle Commission. Block finished fourth in a six-person race with 18,940 votes (10.77 percent).
The port operates Sea-Tac International Airport.
Challenger Gael Tarleton (58,063 votes, 33.01 percent), who outpolled incumbent Bob Edwards (50,519 votes, 28.72 percent), will be on the general election ballot for Position 2.
Thom McCann received 33,119 votes (18.83 percent), Wen Wu Lee 7,284 votes (4.14 percent) and The-Anh Nguyen 7,266 votes (4.13 percent).
Incumbent Alec Fisken (79,397 votes, 46.10 percent) will face challenger Bill Bryant (51,008 votes, 29.62 percent) for port position 5 in November.
Catherine J. Perkins received 30,083 votes (17.47 percent) and Stephen Symms 10,961 votes (6.36 percent).
In the Democratic Party primary for King County Council District 8, incumbent Dow Constantine (14,678 votes, 91.85 percent) easily beat challenger Goodspaceguy Nelson (1,261 votes, 7.89 percent). Constantine will run against John Potter, who was unopposed in the Republican primary.
In Des Moines and Federal Way, voters approved a six-year property tax levy lid lift for South King Fire and Rescue.
The levy lid lift, which will continue the current fire and rescue tax levy, was approved by 11,788 voters (70.09 percent) with 5,030 opposed (29.91 percent).
William (Bill) Gates (5,977 votes, 44.1 percent) will face Gary C. Bollinger (5,378 votes, 39.68 percent) in the general election for commissioner position 1 in the district. John F. Rickert received 2,144 votes (15.82 percent).
Voters in the two Burien-area fire districts also approved six-year property tax levy lid lifts to continue current funding levels.
In Fire District 2 (Burien/Normandy Park), the levy lid lift was approved by a 3,632 vote (69.12 percent) to 1,623 vote (30.88 percent) margin.
In the North Highline Fire District (District 11), the proposition received 1,927 votes (74.52 percent) with 659 no votes (25.48 percent) cast.

Burien: Position 2-Councilwoman Lucy Krakowiak (unopposed); Position 6-Ed Dacy and Kathy Keene.
Des Moines: Mayor Bob Sheckler, Mayor Pro Tem Scott Thomasson and Councilman Dan Sherman (all unopposed).
Normandy Park: Position 1-Councilman Stuart Creighton and Doug Osterman; Council members Shawn McEvoy, George Hadley and William Enersen (all unopposed).
SeaTac: Council members Terry A. Anderson, Gene Fisher and Ralph Shape (all unopposed); Mia Gregerson, for the seat being vacated by Councilman Don DeHan (unopposed).
Tukwila: Council members Dennis Robertson and Joan M. Hernandez (both unopposed).
Highline School District: District 1-Tyrone Curry Sr. and Sili Savusa for the seat being vacated by Tom Slattery; District 4-Bernie Dorsey and Melissa Sue Robinson for the seat being vacated by Phyllis Byers; Michael D. Spear for the seat being vacated by Matt Pina (unopposed).
Tukwila School District: District 2-Board member Patty Maltsberger and Amela Babic; Board members Mark Wahlstrom and W. Cory Manago (unopposed).
Southwest Suburban Sewer District: Position 2- Commissioner Bill Tracy and former Commissioner John Jovanovich.
Valley View Sewer District: Commissioner Mike West (unopposed).
Highline Water District: Position 2-Dan Johnson and Scott Hilsen for the seat being vacated by Commissioner Daniel Johnson (short- and full-term); Position 4-Commissioner George Landon (unopposed).
Water District 20: Commissioner Gary Coy (unopposed).
Water District 49: Position 2-Commissioner David Lutz and former Commissioner Earl DeWitt; Position 3 (unexpired two-year term)-Commissioner Tom Jovanovich (unopposed).
Water District 54: John Rayback (unopposed).
Fire District 2 (Burien/Normandy Park): Ted Sitterley, for the seat being vacated by Galen Willis Jr.
Fire District 11 (North Highline): Position 2-Commissioner Wayne G. Alishokis and Heidi Johnson (short- and full-term).
