Dem bones
Tue, 08/28/2007
Tuesday morning, a young woman was down at the Duwamish shoreline doing research for a college paper when she discovered what she thought was a human bone. She dug a bit in the dirt and found other bones and decided to call 911. The bones were taken to the medical examiner's office to be analyzed.
Friday afternoon, a wedding party at Hamilton Viewpoint was repeatedly interrupted by four men wearing masks who drove by and yelled profanity. They also threatened to shoot and kill the partygoers. The car was a newer black Ford F-150 with a confederate flag where the front license plate should be.
After leaving her dog tied up for three hours outside an Alki restaurant, a woman was startled when two strangers untied the dog and started to walk off with it. They defended their actions, feeling that the dog had been abandoned. Officers told the would-be rescuers to call police or animal control in the future and reminded the dog owner that it's illegal to tether animals on city property. They also told her to be aware that citizens are likely to take action if they feel an animal is distress.
Lock your windows and be aware of strangers and strange goings-on. Earlier this month, a family living near Schmitz Park returned home from an errand and saw a ladder propped up against their house. During the short time they were gone, someone entered the home and stole a 42-inch plasma TV, a jewelry box, passports, two bikes, skis, and a laptop. And, sadly, they also took a camcorder that contained footage of a child's birth and other important events.
A 17-year-old reports that as she waited for a bus in the 8400 block of 16th SW, a slightly older young man tried to convince her to get in his light blue Toyota four-door sedan. When she refused, he parked, got out of the car, asked her additional questions, and asked for a hug before driving off. He was about 5 feet,10 inches tall, of medium build, had black hair, and wore a multicolored striped shirt and faded blue jeans.
A Morgan Junction resident was booked into King County Jail on Wednesday after driving recklessly down Delridge in what turned out to be a stolen car. Officers gave chase for a short time, but the suspect cornered himself by turning down a street that dead-ends. He leapt from the car and tried to hide in some blackberry bushes. In addition to the auto theft issues, he was also wanted on a no-bail felony Department of Corrections warrant and on a third-degree theft warrant from Federal Way. His wife was along for the ride, and she was booked for investigation of auto theft and on an existing $10,000 warrant for third-degree theft.
After he tried to use a food stamp card to buy beer and cigarettes (it was declined), a man grabbed the items and started to exit the store. When the employee tried to stop the would-be thief, he was hit three times. Officers later found the suspect and booked him into King County Jail for investigation of robbery.
