Foster wins against Seattle Christian

Foster weathered a Seattle Christian comeback in a girls volleyball match, beating the visiting Warriors in four games, 25-22, 15-25, 25-19, 25-21, a week ago Monday.
"It's a better start than last year," said Bulldogs head coach Tina Brooks, in her second year. "We won three games all year last year."
This four game match was closer than the score, not that the scores were that far apart.
In game one, SCS and Foster were at 16-16 and then 22-21, Foster leading both times, before a couple miss hit shots spelled fate in that one for SCS. For the red and white team it was a miss hit kill attempt that stopped the Warriors in game one to end things and that game point was a microcosm of the final three points of the game-all SCS miss hits out of bounds.
But SCS coach Rebecca Egger says she has a group of players that are still in the developmental stages so miss hits and bad shots and miscues will not at all be missed sorry to say.
"Still learning to play with each other," said Egger, in her sixth season as Warriors coach but who mentioned co-coach Dave Traynor, who helps out equally well. "It's a non-league game. We will treat it as learning."
The big change in this game, besides SCS taking game two behind some sudden aggressive kills from junior Megan Collier, was the way Foster rubbed off that game two loss.
They came right back in game three to lead 5-1 out of the gate and never looked back, leading by 16-5, and 23-15. Lote Faalelea, a 5-9 middle hitter, scored back-to-back kills to seal the game three win for the Bulldogs.
But, stepping back, the Warriors did well to come back and take game two after a close loss in game one that by all rights could have been demoralizing.
"Yeah, they did (come back)," said Rachel Aleaga , a senior outside hitter on the Bulldogs.
And then what was done to quell that sudden change of momentum favoring the Warriors?
"We just calmed each other down and picked it back up," said Aleaga.
And that game two win for SCS had pumped everyone up on it's team, but then when Foster led 5-1 early in game three and went on to an easy victory the excitement of coming back must have seemed like a distant feeling.
Why the dominating game two effort for SCS and the slow start that knocked them out in game three was a good question to ask Egger. But...
"If we knew the answer to that we wouldn't have lost," laughed Eggers, with Collier there, smiling.
"Everyone was encouraging , trying to pick everyone up," said Collier. "We are all pretty much good friends."
A couple others to mention that were helping out the Warriors with kills, digs and sets were Annika Linman, Faye Torrejon and Megan's twin, Melissa.
"They (the twins) are a good combo," said Egger.
Brooks liked how her team combined together to rally from the game two loss led by her seniors.
"We have eight seniors this year," said Brooks. "Jasmine Horton, Alyssa Solomon, Jamie Camp, Rachel Aleaga, Tiana Nizamic, Lote Sefo and Marcquetta Coles."
The key players that Brooks mentioned when asked were Faalalea with five aces, two blocks, and five kills, Ashley Martin, with 19 digs, and Horton with nine kills and two blocks."
