The new city park being developed a few blocks west of the Alaska Junction needs an official name so Seattle Parks and Recreation is asking the public for ideas.
The city purchased property owned by Jim Ercolini at 48th Avenue S.W. and S.W. Alaska Street in 2005 with money from the Pro Parks Levy. The working title for this new park has been Ercolini Park, in honor of the family, which once lived on the property.
Several public meetings were held to solicit ideas for the park. Some of the features people wanted include an open play meadow, children's play structures, a sandbox, a small plaza with tables and benches, a loop path and sidewalks. The site will be landscaped of course, and equipped with drainage and irrigation systems.
Construction on the site is scheduled to begin in early October and completion is anticipated in early 2008.
Please submit suggestions for park names in writing by Thursday, Nov. 1 to Seattle Parks and Recreation, Park Naming Committee, 100 Dexter Ave. N, Seattle WA 98109.
