We can understand and accept the Alaskan Way Viaduct improvements from south Holgate Street through south King Street, and Lenora Street through the Battery Street tunnel. However, the plans are incomplete, which leaves a lot to be desired. By not addressing the complete viaduct replacement you are selling the people of Seattle short. The entire project should have been presented to the people.
Concern about the King Street through Lenora street area is open to the city surface street option or even another tunnel option which was rejected by the State and the peoples' vote, Also an elevated option is still possible and would be the most viable of any of the other options. If the cities plan is adopted developers may develop the waterfront as they see fit, with city approval.
The city's $8.1 million plan does not fulfill the mobility plan to replace the central waterfront portion of the Alaskan Way Viaduct.
SR 99, being a state highway, is the responsibility of state government and should override any city options that are not in the best interests of the people of Seattle and the surrounding areas.
The most preferred Alaskan Way Viaduct solution would be a single level expressway consisting of six lanes, three going in opposite directions connecting the King street improvements through the downtown corridor to Lenora Street and continuing through the Battery street tunnel improvement.
