Thomas Jefferson found itself fighting the wind and the rain Friday, as well as the Kentlake Falcons.
But the Raiders stuck close until a couple touchdowns in the fourth in an increasing storm put them away, 28-10.
TJ was only down by only a 9-7 margin late in the second quarter and early in the third.
"It was a good game until late in the third quarter," said first year Raiders head coach Dean Peck.
Peck and his team found themselves having the most trouble getting the offense going.
"It wasn't the best night for our offense," Peck said. "Here we have the pass and we get a wind and rain storm."
Kentlake moved quickly to get on the scoreboard, as Chris Elsmore ran 63 yards for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage. Tyler Wright kicked the extra point for a 7-0 advantage.
The Falcons quickly added to the lead, as Kama Frank's punt attempt into the wind was blocked through the back of the end zone for a safety and a 9-0 lead with 9:13 to play in the first quarter.
Harshfield had a chance for a field goal from 31 yards out and into the teeth of the south wind late in the first quarter, but the ball went low and to the left.
The two teams remained silent until TJ got on the scoreboard with 3:55 to go in the half.
Raider quarterback Taylor Stark found Ravi Kumar open in the right side of the end zone and zipped the ball to him for a 6-yard passing touchdown. Erik Harshfield's point after touchdown kick was good to cut Kentlake's lead to 9-7.
The Falcons went to work again with 8:18 remaining in the second quarter to go up, 16-7.
Kyle Schafbauer intercepted a pass and returned it 48 yards for the score and Wright's kick was good.
Harshfield struck for TJ with 7:42 remaining in the third quarter, slipping a 39-yard field goal with the wind that just slipped over the Crossbar.
With the score 16-10 and the Raiders back within a touchdown, Schafbauer struck again by returning a punt 50 yards for a score. The Falcons came up just short of a two-point conversion to put the margin at 22-10 with 6:50 left in the fourth quarter.
Kentlake took control with 4:01 to play, as Taylor Angevine ran for a 7-yard touchdown. Wright's kick was good and the Falcons were up to stay at 29-10.
Thomas Jefferson plays its last game Friday, battling rival and South Puget Sound League North Division champion Federal Way at 7 p.m. It will be homecoming for the Eagles.
