State Sen. Margarita Prentice, D-Renton, and Rep. Eileen Cody, D-West Seattle, recently received special recognition from Mount St. Vincent Long Term Care Hospital ("the Mount").
A $5,000 scholarship has been named for each of them for their work in long-term care both as nurses and legislators. The scholarships will go to nursing students or nurses who wish to specialize in geriatrics and long-term care.
Prentice represents the 11th Legislative District, Cody the 34th. Both include the Highline area.
"An award of this kind is truly an honor and even more so to be recognized with my longtime friend and colleague," Prentice said. "Both of us see our time in the Legislature as an extension of our identities as registered nurses.
"It was a privilege to work for the Sisters of Providence, and I am always conscious of the values in which they work, worship and share with their employees. Mother Joseph's story is a wonderful example that both Eileen and I live by-never hesitate to act when you know you're right."
Prentice served four years as in-service director and five years as director of nurses at the Mount, leaving in 1988 to serve in the House of Representatives.
