I have worked with Stuart Creighton very closely on key education and environmental issues. I am writing to recommend his re-election.
At one memorable Normandy Park City Council meeting, I was requesting an endorsement for a Highline School District bond. Stuart provided me with some helpful guidance before the meeting. During the meeting, there was a very determined effort to head off the council's endorsement. Stuart worked very effectively with the other council members to get the endorsement. Stuart is a constant champion for education; this particular meeting is just one example.
On the environment, Stuart has done amazing work. The environmental protections achieved during the third runway fight are serving as national precedents for major environmental projects. Stuart did an incredible amount of volunteer work with citizens, attorneys and regulators. I have no doubt certain groups, like the Master Builders Association, want him defeated as revenge for his insistence on strong protection of our health and of the environment.
Without ongoing monitoring, the protections we've won would be irrelevant. There have been many "accidents," as reported in last week's paper. During runway construction, Stuart helped bring issues to the attention of State regulators-the realities of overloaded speeding trucks that jeopardized our safety, of shoddy construction practices and of poor water management that harmed our streams and scoured salmon habitat. Stuart deserves much credit for making sure environmental protections of people and wildlife are actually implemented.
The port's future plans also have the potential to harm us. Stuart has a demonstrated interest and ability to advocate for regional airport solutions other than dumping all air traffic at Sea-Tac. He has invaluable experience, an amazing work ethic and has made significant contributions to our community. I hope voters will choose to re-elect Stuart Creighton.
