Camp Long has partnered with Sustainable West Seattle (SWS), a newly-formed group of West Seattle citizens who want to make a difference locally, to envision a West Seattle community of empowered citizens who actively lead us toward greater self-reliance, local democracy, social justice, and existence in harmony with life on earth.
Sustainable West Seattle's shape and activities reflect the talent and interests of those who participate, but they aim to provide resources and outreach for the West Seattle neighborhood on issues such as:
* Renewable energy & conservation
* Local transportation solutions
* Eating locally and sustainable health
* Water and waste reduction
* Green building, sustainable landscaping and gardening
* Community-based economics
* Green space conservation
Join Sustainable West Seattle for an Open Space discussion at Camp Long, on the topic "How do we make West Seattle More Sustainable in 2008?"
November 17, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"Open Space" is an inspirational form of conferencing whose principles are:
Whoever comes are the right people,
Whatever happens is the only thing that could have,
Whenever it starts is the right time,
Whenever it's over, it's over.
Since the meeting is intended to be self-organizing, the conveners put their energy not in running the meeting but into creating a setting that gets everyone's creative energy flowing. Please bring your own topics for discussion, and use the "Law of Two Feet" to find the discussion that inspires you!
SWS will provide a sustainable breakfast, delicious local food, and fair trade coffee and teas. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN MUG, PLATE and EATING UTENSILS. Meet in the lodge at Camp Long, 5200 35th Ave SW, just before 9 a.m.!
