Cross country
Ryan Prentice of Mount Rainier High School in Des Moines captured first place individually at the state cross country meet in Pasco that concluded Saturday, Nov. 3.
Prentice posted a time of 16:01 to lead the Class 3A pack.
Foster, meanwhile, came in ninth in the Class 2a boys team standings with 259 points. Abdi Giire came in second in a time of 16:19 to lead the Bulldogs.
On the girls side, Mount Rainier placed 16th as a team with 397 points.
Girls soccer
JFK 2, Meadowdale 0
Kennedy High School downed Meadowdale, 2-0, to open state playoff action Tuesday, Nov. 6. The victory advanced the Lancers into this past Saturday's state quarterfinals to play Issaquah. Saturday's winner goes on to Friday's state semifinals at Harry Lang Stadium (adjacent to Clover Park High School in Lakewood).
Against Meadowdale, the Lancers first scored with 21:21 elapsed. An obstruction call led to Amanda Arntz taking a corner kick, and she got the ball to Jackie Thomas who put it into the far corner for a 1-0 lead.
The second goal came quickly at the 23:53 mark.
Arntz took a back-and-forth ball and put it into the left corner.
Ashley Engel earned the shutout on goal for the Lancers. She helped keep Meadowdale out of the net even though it outshot Kennedy, 6-2, in the second half. The Lancers had an 8-6 shot advantage in the first half.
Volleyball
Kennedy 3, Mt. Vernon 0
Kennedy opened the state volleyball tournament in Kennewick on the right foot Friday, posting a 28-26, 25-13, 27-25 win over Mount Vernon.
Marissa Bittenc had 12 digs and Ashley Eneliko scored 17 kills and three aces for the Lancers. Bianca McCluskey contributed 36 assists and three aces while Amanda Zilke scored 12 kills and Paula Miles five kills.
Kamiakin 3, Kennedy 0
The Lancers took a 25-14, 25-21, 25-23 loss to Kamiakin in the state quarterfinals Friday evening.
Bittenc had 14 digs, Eneliko 13 kills, McCluskey 22 assists and Zilke five kills.
