"What does liberty mean to me" will be the theme of a fund-raiser for the Seattle Statue of Liberty Plaza Project. Major donors are invited to a gala event, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 27 at Duke's Chowder House at Alki.
The evening will be emceed by Dave Ross from KIRO News Radio, interviewing Mayor Greg Nickels, City Councilmember Tom Rasmussen, King County Councilmember Dow Constantine, other civic leaders and sports figures about their thoughts on liberty. Duke's will serve hors d'oeuvres and provide a no-host bar.
Paul Carr, a co-chair for the committee, mistakenly posted a ticket price to the project's Web site. Entrance is actually free, but reservations are required for the limited number of tickets.
Paul and co-chair Libby Carr, plan to persuade everyone there to sponsor a brick, bench, or plaque.
"It's a blatant fund-raiser," said Paul. "We figured we would do it once and do it right."
