Decatur Head Coach Kevin Olson must have been pleased with his team's performance Tuesday night. And with five players scoring in the double digits, he wasn't the only one smiling.
With an exemplary showing from his starting five-and a hefty lead over visiting Kentlake-Olson had the luxury of clearing his bench during the fourth quarter, allowing a few players some floor time as the season winds down.
Kentlake cleared its bench, too, as their opponent pulled away for good in the second half.
Senior guard Marcus Tibbs led all scorers with 22 points, followed by junior Michael Hale with 17.
Cam Shilling, a junior, and senior forward Darious Walker scored 14 each. Walker added a high-flying dunk in the first half that shook the Decatur faithful-already on their feet-into a cheering frenzy.
The fans, like the Gator players, never let up on Kentlake.
K.J. Hong knocked in seven, while teammates K.J. Hong and Terrell Williams added two points each.
The Gators, with only two losses-to rival Federal Way and non-conference foe Auburn-improved to 8-1 in conference play and 13-2 overall. Decatur takes on Kentridge tonight, January 18, on the road.
