Super Stars win again
The Ballard Super Stars girl's soccer team won the Seattle City Soccer Tournament for the second time in as many years last month. This year the U-13 Super Stars had to rebound from a 3-2 first round shoot-out loss against the Ballard Youth Soccer Club rival, Ballard Mustangs to stay in the double elimination tournament.
Coach Steve Leipertz's balanced control of scoring and defense proved an effective tactic as the Super Stars stacked up an impressive string of 6 shut-out wins against mostly gold level teams to reach the finals.
In the 2007 tournament final the Stars were matched with the undefeated Shorelake Wave. The Super Stars scored first on a well placed penalty kick by Hollie Sharp. Before the half the Super Stars would score again. This time with Audrey Rausch's breakaway goal off pass from mid-fielder Gina Leipertz.
In the second half the Super Stars defense lead by Maren Scott, Brittaini Bergerson and goalkeeper Zoe Birkbeck took over as the Stars would go on to blank the Wave 2 - 0.
