Seattle Parks and Recreation will host a meeting to discuss a new park acquisition for the Ballard community.
The meeting will take place on Thursday, March 27, 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Ballard Boys and Girls Club, located at 1767 N.W. 64th St.
Parks will provide information about the proposed acquisition of the 39,000-square-foot property located at 7028 9th Ave. N.E. and solicit comments and suggestions from the Ballard community on this purchase.
The city reached a preliminary agreement to purchase this site and anticipates City Council action on this acquisition in April.
On July 29, 2002 Seattle City Council unanimously approved funding from the Pro Parks Levy Opportunity Fund to acquire sites for new neighborhood parks in underserved areas of Ballard. Ballard Corners Park, at 17th Northwest and Northwest 63rd Street, was the first site acquired and is in development.
Approved by Seattle voters in 2000, the $198.2 million Pro Parks Levy funds more than 100 projects throughout the city in the span of eight years. Projects include improvements to athletic fields, playgrounds, trails, community centers and parks.
