Brick sales for the Alki Statue of Liberty plaza end Monday, March 31.
"While we don't know when the project will be completed, we do know it will take several months," says Paul Carr, co-chair for the Seattle Statue of Liberty Plaza Project on their Web site.
Before a contractor can pave the new plaza with the personalized bricks, two databases of inscriptions must be consolidated, then converted to a standardized format. Seattle Parks and Recreation must screen the inscriptions, because department policy does not allow phrases such as "in memory of."
Then Kenadar-a brick engraving company in Tacoma, which provided the tiles for the Pike Place Market and the Safeco Field fan walk-needs two to three months to engrave the more than 1,200 bricks ordered.
Paul and co-chair Libby Carr will continue their promotion-selling three bricks for the cost of two-until Monday.
