KidSounds Northwest, YouthSounds Northwest and TeenSounds Northwest join together to present "That's e-ntertainment" on May 16 at 7 p.m. at the Highline Performing Arts Center, 410 S. 152nd St, in Burien.
In the first act of this two-part concert, the young singers celebrate the history of Broadway and the great heritage of musical theater in a marvelous 55-minute choral revue by Mac Huff. From the music of Tin Pan Alley to state-of-the-art contemporary Broadway, the magic of an entire century of drama, laughter and beautiful music comes to life.
The second part of the show, entitled "www.thatsentertainment.com" finds a group of students assigned to search the Internet for entertainment Web sites. They sing the songs they discover along the journey.
Both educational and entertaining for the entire family, "That's e-ntertainment" is certain to set toes a-tappin!
Conducted by Paula Hawkins, KidSounds, grades 3-5, YouthSounds, grades 6-8, and TeenSounds, grades 9-12, provide musical education and performance opportunity for young people in South King County.
As local school districts continue cutting funding for music curricula, these ensembles provide an important and life-changing opportunity for students to learn through the discipline of music. Along the way, audiences are delighted with the entertaining performances of these dedicated young singers.
The three ensembles are part of Northwest Associated Arts, which includes ChoralSounds Northwest, and Cantare Vocal Ensemble.
4Culture, City of Burien, Horizons Foundation, Fred Meyer, Glaser Foundation, Washington State Arts Commission, Seattle Mayor's Office of Arts and Culture, PONCHO, and Target support the Youth Choral Education Program in part.
Adult tickets are $12, seniors, $9; and young people, 17 and under, are admitted free with a paid adult. Tickets are available online at www.nwassociatedarts.org or by calling 206.246.6040.
