In response to the letter that appeared in the May 7, 2008 issue of the Highline Times, Highline Medical Center wants to reassure community residents that access to health care is a priority for our entire organization.
As with any business, there are times when two parties cannot reach mutually agreeable contract terms. That is what occurred between United Healthcare and Highline's contracting organization, Highline Medical Services Organization, through which area physicians and Highline Medical Center participated in the Secure Horizons managed care plan for many years.
As a result, the contract was terminated.
Fortunately, we have been able to ensure expanded choice for our patients by contracting with Molina Healthcare of Washington and Puget Sound Health Partners. These two plans alone offer five different benefit options, and have an extensive pharmacy network that includes Bartell's, as well as many other locations. There are now more choices for coverage than ever before and in addition to managed care products, the hospital and area physicians continue to accept a wide range of traditional open-network supplemental plans, including those offered by AARP, United Healthcare.
We know the many Medicare options available to seniors make it very confusing for everyone - patients, physicians, office staff and even the hospital. We would encourage anyone in the community who has to concerns to call Bonnie Jennings, Provider Relations Specialist at (206) 249-0334 or their physician's office for assistance. We are available to help navigate this difficult issue and assist community members in finding a plan that meets their needs.
