1. On May 3, at 11:26 a.m., Federal Way Police Officers responded to the 2000 block of SW 353rd Pl, on a welfare check. A 68 yr old Asian male identified as Paul Kim was seen by officers attempting to injure himself with a knife. Officers made entry to the home, secured Mr. Kim and discovered a 67 yr old white female identified as Baerbel K. Roznowski with fatal stab wounds.
Medical personnel attempted to revive the victim without success. At 8:13am on May 3, 2008, Kim was served an anti-harassment order, initiated by the Roznowski on May 1, 2008 at King County Superior Court. Kim subsequently left the location.
Before being served with an anti-harassment order, Paul Kim contacted a family friend and was despondent about his relationship with Baerbel Roznowski.
Due to the concern for Kim, the friend called 911, and Federal Way officers initiated a welfare check at 11:26 a.m. on May 3.
Federal Way Police Department records indicate that the suspect and victim had a dating relationship.
The victim, Roznowski owns the home at the location.
The suspect remains in police custody at Harborview Medical Center upon release he will be booked into the King County Jail. His medical condition is still listed as serious.
Federal Way Police Detectives executed a search warrant of the home the evening of May 3, 2008. A knife was recovered from the suspect at the scene.
The King County Medical Examiner has concluded the autopsy and confirmed the identity of Ms. Roznowski. The cause of death was multiple fatal stab wounds.
The King County Prosecutors has charged Mr. Paul Kim with 1st Degree Murder, with a deadly weapon enhancement.
The Federal Way Police Department is committed to conducting a thorough investigation to determine the facts and circumstances surrounding this death. Investigative efforts are on-going, according to the department.
Officer involved shooting at 324th St.
2. On May 10, a Federal Way Police Officer was on routine patrol at approximately 4:44 PM when he observed what appeared to be a vehicle prowl in-progress in the area of S. 324 St. and Pacific Highway S. When the officer attempted to detain the subject, the subject fled on foot and the officer gave chase.
During the foot pursuit the white male suspect in his twenties pointed a handgun at the officer. The officer fired at the suspect. The suspect continued to flee on foot, but the police quickly contained the area and a search resulted in locating the suspect.
The suspect was taken into custody without further incident. Neither the officer nor the suspect was injured during the incident. The investigation is on-going.
The officer has just over two years with the Federal Way Police Department and has been placed on Administrative leave with is standard police practice.
