We were about to enjoy a Mother's Day Brunch at the Des Moines Creek Restaurant when someone came in and announced, "If you are parked down below, they are towing the cars away."
We had parked there, as the upper level was full.
This area is owned by another restaurant. We had parked in the middle of the lot along with a few other cars. It was 10:15 a.m. and the lot was empty, aside from those who were attending the brunch.
My husband went out to see what was happening and fortunately he got there before our car was towed out of the lot. Two others were not so lucky as the tow trucks had them hitched up and were leaving the lot.
What has happened to the friendly community of Des Moines?
When we had finished our meal, we left to find two police cars in the parking lot trying to keep people from getting too vocal and out of control when they found their vehicles had been towed away.
On leaving the lot, we noticed posting along the wooden 2x4's bordering the lot that said "no parking."
However, they would not be apparent to someone entering the center of the lot where the cars were parked.
Isn't it too bad that Mother's Day involved getting a big tow charge because the owners of the other restaurant could not be gracious enough to allow the overflow brunch crowd to use their empty lot? The sad part was that their restaurant was not even open for business!
