The progress of the new Burien Town Square is coming along nicely and will be a welcomed improvement to the overall ambiance of Burien.
It will provide a wonderful selection of residences and commercial possibilities to our area.
There is one problem that I see looming in the near future, given the fact that parking for this area will be at a premium, is the plan to relocate the Burien library to the southeast corner of the town square. I, for the life of me cannot understand what the motivation to do so, since the existing location is so ideal, with its ample parking, generous space and next-door park with its adjoining art gallery.
The library's architecture has a wonderful Northwest quality and it is by no stretch of the imagination obsolete.
I strongly urge the Burien City Council to rethink the proposal and keep it at its current location. This is prime real estate that they are planning to use, and on a tax revenue perspective the city would be better served using it a commercial property.
Also, on an expenditure viewpoint, there would be a considerable savings if the BCC chose to leave the library at its existing location. But, this is my perspective; I think like a businessperson with a cautious eye on expenditures and revenue.
My feeling is also the same about the relocation of Burien City Hall; there is absolutely no reason why it should be located on such prime property. It doesn't provide any revenue that I am aware of and does not attract any patronage,
Again, that's me-- the businessman. Sorry.
