The Des Moines City Council rescheduled on June 12 a public hearing about the proposed Highline View Estates development south of Highline Community College.
In response to the public hearing being rescheduled to July 3, Mayor Pro Tem Dan Sherman said, "We'll have fireworks two days in a row."
Des Moines will submit a grant application to the Recreation and Conservation Funding Board for an additional $17,000 toward the Des Moines Creek Trail Project, bringing the project total to $230,000. The condition for approval was that in the future staff will have the ability to look at grants before approving them.
Council approved putting $12,000 toward the Mount Rainier High School track and accepted an agreement with Data 911 for the purchase of mobile data computers totaling $176,000.
The city accepted a donation of mural artwork "Spirit of Des Moines" by artists Anita Corby and Katherine Caughey. The mural is valued at $40,000.
Finally, council authorized the Puget Sound Bicycle Racing Club to conduct the "2008 Des Moines Bike Criterium" in downtown Des Moines June 29.
