The class of 1958 of West Seattle High School celebrated its 50th Reunion June 6-8, 2008. The first activity was a golf tournament in the rain on Friday morning at Foster Golf Course followed in the evening by the All School Reunion held in the commons of the school. Over 175 alumni and guests enjoyed visiting, eating and having their group pictures taken thanks to Jay and Joanne of Murray Photography Studio. The class was then recognized at the program held in the theatre along with the Scholarship winners from the class of 2008.
Saturday evening our get together was held at the Rainier Golf and Country Club where we listened to the 1950's music, enjoyed a wonderful buffet, program and greeting old friends. There were over 275 for dinner including four retired teachers from the 1956-1958 school years. John Ellis introduced the retired teachers. Mr. Kermit Franks, Mr. Harry Beasley, Mr. Dick Alsleben and Mr. Coke Roberts. They each shared a few words of their memories of teaching at West Seattle High School.
Our Master of Ceremonies included Jim Allgire, chairman of the Reunion Committee, Bob Kirchner, Sandy Thompson Aldworth and Gary Norman. Honored for their many years of service for the class of 1958 were Jim Allgire, Sandy Thompson Aldworth and Audrey Lowdon Tharp. Sunday morning was a buffet held at the SeaTac Doubletree Hotel attended by over 65 alumni and friends.
There are still some Memory books available for $15 (mailed $20). Contact Audrey Lowdon Tharp 253.931.1136 or sharptharp@comcast.net.
Our weekend was a special celebration and a time to reflect on those 93 classmates that are no longer with us.
The plan is for a 55th get together in 2013!
