Young swimmers enjoy the warm Marine Hills pool on a cool late spring day in June. The facility has a new state-of-the-art boiler that keeps the water at 84 degrees. The heated Marine Hills pool is the largest of its kind in the Federal Way.
Ask the hardy nine and ten-year old kids at the Marine Hills Pool last weekend if the weather was too cold for swimming and you would probably be splashed in reply.
"It's not cold! The water's warm!" yells out one of the twenty or so members of a girls soccer team celebrating their season at the outdoor facility.
"And then when they get out, they love to steam up the locker room in the hot showers," observed lifeguard Kaia Barth, "then after their parents make them eat, they're back in the water for more."
The unusually cold spring is not hampering the fun at the Marine Hills Pool in Federal Way.
"We've recently installed a state-of-the-art energy efficient boiler which is keeping the water a comfortable 84 degrees," said Pool Manager Robin Hoof. "And on cooler days, the kids love seeing the steam rise out of the pool when they arrive for swim team practice and lessons."
"They can't wait to get in," she said.
The Marine Hills Swim and Tennis Club has the largest outdoor pool in greater Federal Way.
The facility is located at 600 South 302nd Street, in the Marine Hills neighborhood. Follow the signs off Dash Point Road and 9th Place South.
Both swim and tennis lessons are available to general public.
