Performing Trash Apes, the Battle of the Artists, and indie rock band The Bird Show of North America playing music while simultaneously painting birds on stage are a few of the unique happenings scheduled for this weekend's Burien Strawberry & Arts Festival at Fourth Avenue Southwest and Southwest 146th Street in Burien.
Over 50 separate activities are scheduled for Saturday, June 28 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, June 29 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The performance schedule features an outstanding selection of afro-Cuban, salsa, zydeco, gypsy jazz, indie rock, flamenco, folk-gospel, accordion, rhythm & blues, hip hop, soul, funk, bluegrass, Irish, and mariachi professional musicians.
Kids' performances include circus arts, puppetry, physical comedy, songs, storytelling, poetry, riddles, and theatrical jump roping.

The festival is also featuring a new "Battle of the Artists" where two local urban artists Sam Sneke and Iosefatu Sua will battle in the street by outdoing each other with their artistic skill.
Family hands-on activities include mask-making, a chalk-drawing competition, building with Lego's, and the creation of a huge dragon, which will be lit-up and wander in downtown Burien during this year's Fall Art Walk's Lantern Festival. Portland artist Flora Shannon Bowley will be creating a new mural throughout the weekend, and the new "Chrysalis" show at the Burien Arts Gallery will exhibit the work of artists Arturo, Katie Miller, and Anthea Groves. The artists will also be present during the event.
New this year for kids is the free "Bicycle Helmet Giveaways" and raffle for a new bike on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 pm.
A "Wii Showdown Tourney" will thrill older kids and teens with "Guitar Hero", "Dance Revolution" and "Super Smash Brothers" competitions throughout the weekend.
The Skateboard Contest will showcase thrilling demonstrations on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Pre-Festival events include the Highline Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast on Saturday from 8 a.m. to11 a.m. at the Burien Fire Station, 15100 Eighth Ave. S.W. and the Festival 5K Run and Walk, which starts on Sunday at 9 a.m. at Sixth Avenue Southwest and Southwest 152nd Street in front of Mick Kelly's Restaurant. The Run/Walk benefits both the Ruth Dykeman Center and WhiteWater Aquatics
