On June 22 at 12:02 a.m. Federal Way Police and Fire personnel were called to the 2600 block of Southwest 333rd Place to a report of an injured child.
Upon arrival, officers contacted the father of the male seven-month-old victim. The father was holding the deceased child. The child had suffered severe burns to his full body.
The preliminary investigation disclosed that the child had fallen into a burning fire pit, located in the back yard of the residence.
Both parents and several witnesses were transported to Federal Way Police Department for interviews, all were released.
The father stated he had fallen asleep with the infant on a bench adjacent to the fire pit. When he awoke the infant was gone, and later found in the fire pit.
A search warrant was executed at the residence and a blood draw was taken from the father.
At 4:45 p.m., the Federal Way Police Department arrested the father of the victim in connection to this case.
The 37-year-old suspect will be booked at the King County Jail in Seattle on investigation of Manslaughter I.
The case has been forwarded to the King County Prosecutors Office for review and formal filing determination.
The suspect's name is not being released pending the filing of charges.
The Federal Way Police Department is committed to conducting a thorough investigation to determine the facts and circumstances surrounding this tragic death. Investigative efforts are on-going.
Cause of death is expected to be released by the King County Medical Examiner's Office.
