After a long wait (about 15 years, isn't it?), construction has begun on the new Statue of Liberty plaza. Hoo-ray!
Many thanks to Paul and Libby Carr along with their many dedicated volunteers for getting this project implemented. Their tireless fund raising was instrumental in this success.
Also, recognition must go to Northwest Program for the Arts, Alki Community Council, Tom Ansart, owner of the (now defunct) Liberty Deli, Starbucks, Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation and all the private individuals who made donations or bought bricks.
This has truly been a community organized and supported project that will benefit all of Seattle and provide visitors to Alki with a rewarding and non-commercial experience.
If I have forgotten to thank everybody, please check out http://sealady.org/
Again: thank you to Paul and Libby Carr and all the people who have made the Statue and Statue Plaza project a reality.
