Fritz is not Toto He's a Cairn Terrier and loves his heavy steel leash almost as much as he does giving high fives while standing on his hind legs Photo by Kim Robinson
Fritz is mostly a cairn terrier, similar to Toto in the wizard of OZ. He is
9 years old and he weighs 26 lbs. His owners, the Bowens, have come to expect the unusual from him "He won't eat his food unless you ask him to give you a high five, he has to get up on his back feet to do it" said Josh Bowen. He has a favorite leash which is a heavy steel shiny leash. But it's his prowess as a life saver that really stands out.
"We had a grease fire in the kitchen and Fritz went downstairs and barked like crazy which got my mom to go upstairs and see the fire, he saved her life," said Josh.
Beyond being the proud owners of Fritz, Sharda and Josh have been West Seattle Herald Carriers since Josh was 12 years old. His mom maintained his route while he's been away at school but technically...it's still his route. However, Josh is currently attending the University of Washington and pursuing a PHD in the economics. We asked him to speak as both a Herald carrier and an advanced student of economics if he had any advice for young people considering a job with the newspaper and he said. "Start to save as early as you can"
