The second design review meeting for a proposed 234-unit apartment building at 1400 N.W. Market St. has been cancelled.
The six-story apartment building would replace Sunset Bowl, which operated in Ballard as a 24-hour bowling alley and diner for the past 51 years. It closed in April.
Developers AvalonBay Communities Inc. were scheduled to present a revised design to the Northwest Design Review Board the evening of August 25 at the Ballard High Library. As of this time, the review has not been rescheduled.
At the first design review, board members took issue with the massing and scale of the mixed-use structure, saying it was too large in comparison to the area's surrounding architecture.
Private commercial and multi-family projects of a certain size must get approval from the citizen-led design review boards as part of the Master Use Permit process. The volunteer positions are appointed by the mayor and city council.
