South King Fire & Rescue is looking for volunteers to receive a home safety survey on preventing falls conducted by a fire department education officer.
The department serves Des Moines and Federal Way. Twelve people will be selected.
The fall prevention program was established to teach people what causes falls, but more importantly, how they can be prevented.
There is no cost to participate. The grant-funded program is provided as a community service of the department.
Grants from King County Emergency Medical Services and private donations are used to purchase risk reduction devices such as tub bars, shower chairs, night lights, power strips and other safety items. They are installed free of charge. To apply, call 253- 946- 7337.
Applicants must be at least 60 years of age, live independently, have fallen in the past year or are at risk from falling and live in Des Moines or Federal Way.
