While the High Point Community Center, which just broke ground, will feature numerous activities geared toward area youth and families, Wednesday's grand opening of Bridge Park retirement home adjacent to the future activity center is geared for the 55-plussers.
But unlike other retirement homes, this one may not be your last stop, and you'll want a passport and set of luggage when you move in.
That's because the 156-unit Bridge Park is operated by the Holiday Retirement Community, and residents are free to stay at any of its nearly 300 locations in America and Canada for up to seven days at no charge, from its Primrose Chateau in Saskatoon to its Desoto Beach Club in Sarasota. (Their Honolulu and Maui locations charge a $75 fee per night.)
"It's like living on a big cruise ship," said Bridge Park sales representative Margaret Norman who lives on site with husband Wayne and other staff members. "We even have a French-trained executive chef who was born in Florence, Franco (Troiano.)
Residents pay month to month, from $1695 up, which includes meals, laundry, and activities.
"We encourage pets," said Norman. "A lot of seniors don't mention leaving home to their kids because they fear being separated from their furry loved ones."
While many retirement homes forbid pets, Merrill Gardens, the Kinney, and Providence Mount St. Vincent in West Seattle are also pet friendly.
Bridge Park residents won't have to fly far afield for a change of scenery.
Wayne explained, "When the High Point Community Center opens, they can just walk there."
Bridge Park will celebrate its official grand opening Sunday, Sept. 14, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m., with a ribbon cutting at1:30 p.m. Refreshments, entertainment, and personal tours will be offered.
