Judge rules police misused Tasers

Sept. 18-A federal magistrate judge ruled that the civil rights of Terrance Releford, 40, were violated by Tukwila police officers Josh Vivet and Mike Richardson during a June 2006 arrest.

Magistrate Judge Mary Alice Theiler said the officers used excessive force when they fired Tasers simultaneously at Releford.

The magistrate also said Releford should be provided an attorney if he wishes to sue police.

Theiler's recommendation goes to the U.S. District Court judge who is hearing the case.

An earlier police internal investigation had cleared the officers of wrongdoing.
