Three open houses scheduled on options for replacement. Two meetings have already been held however they have not been reported by the major news media. It must be evident the meetings and public input wasn't important enough for media coverage. Most people feel that the downtown section of the viaduct is already a done deal and any comment is a waste of time and effort. Our research over the past year of meetings has proved to us that the City Surface Street option plan has been adopted and all we're getting now is lip service. The facts are clear the Surface Street plan is not a viable solution and will not meet our transportation needs for our future. A replacement elevated SR99 is a vital link to Burien, White Center, Queen Anne Magnolia and Ballard and must be preserved for our communities future transportation well being.
We have been lied to, deceived by both our governor and Washington State Department of Transportation because the city has a plan designed to fail. The Washington State Department of Transportation allocated $2.8 billion for a new viaduct replacement. The city allocated $8.1 million of tax money to prevent the state from building a replacement roadway through our city. The City Council is wrong and if they get their way it will be the biggest blunder of our time and devastating to our future economy. Our governor flip-flopped and our community should remind her she only won her election by 133 votes could lose her re-election by 133,000 votes. If we lose the viaduct we can only blame ourselves and our communities so it's now time to take a firm stand to prevent another city blunder.
