The rededication of the Statue of Liberty at Alki was a wonderful neighborhood event. A lot of positive effort went into the project, and many people deserve a lot of credit.
One down-side is that a four block stretch of the promenade is no longer directly accessible to the disabled. The Parks Department justifies reducing access by stating that the existing ramp was not Americans with Disabilities Act compliant anyway, so putting in stairs without a ramp was not a concern. The intent of the American's With Disabilities Act is to remove barriers and ban reducing access to any public area. Failure to comply with that intent is defined as discrimination against the disabled.
