I write this letter to the Democrats as you guys make up the vast majority of the readers. It should be clear to all but the blind and the partisan and the fearful that Obama has won the presidency. The only question for political junkies to debate is does he win it by a small, large margin or a really large margin? This country is heading for one party rule by the Democrats for the next two years. Be cheerful, not fearful!
If this were a Husky football game, the winning coach would put the 4th team in at this point to allow the losers to score a few face saving points if they could and to keep the victory from becoming a hate filled rivalry in the future.
At the Washington State level, it should also be clear to all but the blind that this state already has had one party rule for the last two years, lead again by the Democrats. Rossi could win, but Democrats will absolutely continue to control the House and Senate for the next two years.
We all bemoan political partisanship. However, the solution to partisanship rests with each of us, not with our elected officials. Do the Democrats reading this letter continue to participate in "I hate Bush" rants? Do you continue talk about how unqualified Palin is or how old McCain is? Or do you stop the negative rhetoric right now and instead offer a hand of compassion, of congratulations for a hard fought race and of friendship to the few losing Republicans you know?
Another personal approach to end partisanship is for you to actually vote for one Republican. No, I am not suggesting you vote for McCain, but there are Republicans running for state offices. If you can shift your attitude and lead by example and not vote the straight Democratic ticket you always have, perhaps the haters on the other side will shift their partisan mind-sets as well.
Your actions during these final days will determine if, as Obama wishes, the state and the country marches forward and unified or if bitter partisanship continues as it has for the last 14 years.
The choice is yours to make, Democrats. Why can't we all be friends after the election?
I am running for the State Legislature, 36th District, Position 2 as a dreaded Republican. I have made "working towards the ending of partisanship" one of my primary campaign themes for this election.
