As I awoke this morning, welcomed quiet filled the air
The campaigns all were over and no longer did I care
If Gregoire was for income tax or Rossi owned a bank
Whether Burner went to Harvard or if Joe the Plumber drank
Obama could be GOP, McCain a Democrat
King Kong a playful chimpanzee and Lassie just a cat
The only thing that mattered, was I now could watch TV
Without some ad, about how bad, the other guy might be
Those tasteless barbs no longer would, from dawn to setting sun
Run back to back relentlessly, as more attacks were spun
Aside from spending far too much, as nobler causes fell
Their total lack of wit or worth, a shallow tale did tell
The pundits faired no better, than those running, I suppose
Overanalyzing forecasts, and the price of Palin's clothes
While the pollsters never ceased their dreary quest to calculate
Who would win, by how much margin, and exactly in which state
And because they spent a fortune and ignored the high road's view
Life could hardly be much sweeter, since these campaigns now are through
Though the voting's been "done, done and done" as Shakespeare used to say
'Tis a fleeting peace we'll get, for Christmas ads are on their way
