Drive after drive, near miss after near miss.
That is what Kentwood used to wear down Todd Beamer on its way to winning Wednesday’s South Puget Sound League championship girls soccer match at Federal Way Memorial Stadium, 3-0.
Both teams advanced to this past weekend’s West Central District playoffs, with Kentwood going on as the SPSL’s No. 1 team and Todd Beamer advancing as the No. 2 team.
Beamer came in as the SPSL South champion and Kentwood as the SPSL North champion.
Kentwood launched barrage after barrage at the Titans and it finally paid off with 3 minutes, 30 seconds left in the first half. Kiana Kraft did the scoring honors for the Conquerors.
Kentwood went back to work with two quick goals in the second half.
The first was a long shot from Jolene Crook-Meyers from the left side that upped the Conquerors’ advantage to 2-0 with 27:11 left in the match. Kraft scored Kentwood’s third and final goal shortly thereafter, blasting a shot through in the middle with 26:38 remaining.
Beamer went on to play Puyallup of the SPSL South in a loser-out playoff match at Art Crate Field in Graham after press time Saturday and Thomas Jefferson journeyed to Mount Tahoma in Tacoma to take on Bellarmine of the Narrows League in a game that was also played after press time.
Beamer was without senior midfielder/forward Megan Miller for most of Wednesday’s game after hurting her ankle early in the contest.
TJ 1, Decatur 0
Thomas Jefferson played cross town rival Decatur in a loser-out game at Puyallup’s Sparks Stadium last Wednesday and prevailed against the Gators. Lauren Jerde scored the only goal the Raiders wound up needing on a Jasmine Sharp assist in the 27th minute.
Liz Fitch earned the shutout for TJ as the goalie.
