The "No Change to Park" campaign was present and large at the 'public workshop' for California Place Park. Steve Shay numbered the attendance at 80 when, in fact, it was closer to 100. The proponents who spoke for No Change outnumbered the playground supporters 3 to 1. Again, Shay states the $15,000 will install a "Playscape" on the site. This is not the case, as the $15,000 is for promotion and design only.
Ann Limbaugh states the playground supporters have a mailing list of 200. The Herald failed to report that the "No Change to Park" group had their petition list at the meeting with 443 signatures to submit to city officials. The Parks Department stated it felt this was not representative of the true community. No Change to Park members have been criticized for leaving the FANNA meeting early. Yet, Ann Limbaugh defends her group for not attending and being fearful of speaking up. Do we have a double standard?
Although Ann Limbaugh states "no malintention," FANNA states in their application for the grant that they had the full support of the Admiral Congregational United Church of Christ. This was not the case as the church is neutral. Only after FANNA received the $15,000 was this brought to the attention of the city officials and the church president.
To those who left the meeting thinking only 1,900 square feet is all that is usable for development. This is also not the case as FANNA is not limited to this small area for design.
"No Change to Park" group continues to gain support. Reasons being: Too close to busy street, need for open green space, love of the old growth trees, waste of tax dollars.
