EVERYTHING'S OK. Otis Austin at his newest barbeque restaurant, OK Corral.
West Seattleites now have a place to go for catfish, collard greens and other barbeque dishes. After opening a location on Greenwood Avenue 17 years ago, Otis Austin has now opened a new OK Corral restaurant at 4417 Fauntleroy Way.
When he first considered opening a restaurant in the neighborhood, some of Austin's friends and family tried to talk him out of it, suggesting that the concept wouldn't work in this neighborhood.
But Austin is pleased to report that since opening their doors on Nov. 3, he has had a surprisingly large clientele. In fact, in the first few days he sold out of several items.
Currently the OK Corral is serving ribs, fried and barbeque chicken, catfish, hot links, collard greens, beans and rice and hush puppies. He plans to eventually add sweet potato pie and gumbo to the menu as well. Dishes at the OK Corral are inspired by Austin's upbringing in Georgia.
"It was the way of life down there," Austin said. "You either do it right or you don't do it."
Austin assures customers that there is plenty of parking in the back of the restaurant, but asks that we bear with him during the first few weeks. With the rush of customers he's experienced Austin is still trying to get everything set up at the new restaurant.
"I'm very happy being in West Seattle," said Austin.
