New this year at Burien's Winterfest is a chance to win one of 15 Santa Bags each stuffed with items from more than 20 businesses to help kick off the holiday season in style.

The holiday-bedecked streets on Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. will also be filled with carolers, free activities and in-store specials.

Each Santa Bag features a combination lock, and it takes the correct combination to go home with a bag and its contents.

Festival-goers will receive possible combinations when they shop at participating businesses. Each combination received can be tried on all 15 Santa Bags to see if it unlocks any of them.

No purchase is necessary to get one combination from the Discover Burien information booth.

A hit with youngsters and the young at heart, photos with Santa Claus or his reindeer are scheduled again this year.

Santa will fly in from his toy workshop to pose for pictures at John L. Scott Real Estate, 930 S.W. 152nd St.

The reindeer will sail into Goodie Gumdrops around noon and take off again at 4 p.m.

Can't make it to the Dec. 6 photo sessions? Santa will pop back into Goodie Gumdrops for pictures every Wednesday through Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. until Christmas Day. Goodie Gumdrops, the Burien toy and candy store, is located at the corner of S.W. 152nd St. and Ambaum Blvd. S.W.

Winterfest will feature in-store specials and gift-wrapping. Unique presents are available at boutique shops that feature such items as European d/cor, the best in kitchenware, hand-beaded jewelry, cute and comfortable shoes, facials and more.

Warm up with hot treats like cocoa and spiced cider served at various businesses. Or chill out with samples of ice cream at B-Town Scoop, 917 S.W. 152nd St.

Take a break from the activities with a horse and carriage ride from 2 to 5 p.m.

John L. Scott Real Estate and Shop Olde Burien, a committee of the Discover Burien Association, sponsor Winterfest.

The event centers on Southwest 152nd Street in downtown Burien and in Olde Burien.

Olde Burien is located between Ambaum Boulevard Southwest and Southwest 10th Avenue, and downtown Burien is between First Avenue Southwest and Ambaum Boulevard Southwest.
