In response to Mr. Bill Wippel's recent letter captioned "Let in the light," Mr. Wippel says that things are bleak this year for most charitable organizations that serve the poor.
I am a volunteer with Burien Little Theatre and I agree we should do what we can to help those in need. Burien Little Theatre (http://www.burienlittletheatre.com) is a 501(c))(3), that is, a not-for-profit organization that feeds the soul of our patrons through live theater productions.
But this year Burien Little Theatre is doing even more. For the entire run of "Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol" (running now through Dec. 21,)Burien Little Theatre is partnering with Burien Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services to collect non-perishable food for local food banks. Donations can be dropped off before any performance.
But that is not all. Burien Little Theatre is also donating one-half of the ticket sales from all of the shows in one of our productions to Hospitality House, a local women's shelter.
That's right one-half of all ticket sales, not just part of the profit, but half of the gross ticket sales for the festival.
Burien Little Theatre can only thrive with donations from the community, but it also gives back to the community.
Burien Little Theatre provides entertainment in these unsettled times, and through its food drive and income-sharing with worthwhile organizations, Burien Little Theatre feeds the soul and helps others feed the body.
