On Dec. 11, the Burien Arts Association will hold the opening reception for the Artists United Annual Juried Art Show from 7-9 pm at the Burien Art Gallery.
In addition to the juried show, this month's offerings at the gallery includes "Rare Gems," a collection of exquisite art at affordable prices, just in time for the holidays, gallery officials said.
Pam Ingalls, a Vashon Island artist, will act as the juror for the Artists United juried show at the gallery. Ingalls' first influence was her father who founded the art department at Gonzaga University in Spokane.
After she received her bachelor of arts at that institution, Ingalls spent some years working as a social activist; thinking and observing while showing her work on an irregular basis.
In the mid 1990's, she said she found her focus and passion and began working full time under the influence of artists Ron Lucas, Richard Schmids and Burt Silverman.
Russian Impressionism has heavily influenced her style. Ingalls has gained recognition locally and nationally by exhibiting in more than 125 shows and winning over 60 prizes.
She was a participant in the 2007 Florence Biennale. Her work is also found in many public and private collections.
The gallery is located at 421 S.W. 146th Street in Burien. Hours are Wednesday through Friday noon-5 p.m., Saturday 11a.m.-5 p.m, and Sunday noon-4 p.m.
