I completely agree with the comments of Cary Brown on Dec 1st.
Last night I watched plane after plane land on the third runway, against a backdrop of starry skies -- definitely not instrument conditions.
This morning questioning the Port gives me the answer that they are indeed using the runway to "alleviate congestion during high capacity."
Did anyone hear that in the long struggle against The Port? Seems to me The Port at best mislead the public on the intended use, implying that it was only needed for instrument weather.
Here's a quote from Mark Reis, managing director of the Port's Aviation Division:
"The third runway was not designed or conceived or justified for capacity, it was justified on the bad-weather benefit."
In other words, it was justified on a lie.
It's my opinion the Port is testing the limits now, seeing how much they can use their new runway. They've got to justify this billion-dollar boondoggle somehow.
We all need to stand up, send letters to our legislators, and remind the slippery hustlers at The Port what the runway is for.
