When has the government, at any level, brought in a project under cost or within budget and original specifications? Never is the answer!
It does offer a marvelous opportunity for the congressional party who hates business of all types anyway, to say to the "Big Three" CEOs', "They pay you the Big Bucks--now go figure out your own solution and don't let the door hit you going out!"
And that solution appears to be accelerated bankruptcy with a slowdown in production during this work in process.
Talks or negotiations with the UAW, who are parsing their negotiation words with "temporally, interim or limited period, defer, etc." when it comes to addressing critical issues like workers assignments, workers pool, salary and fringe benefit adjustments, active employee and retiree insurance coverage are an absolute waste of time when that is a critical element in this circumstance... and only a bankruptcy court can decide these in a fair manner.
So Big Three, suck it up get on with the only obvious solution!
