The City of Burien is conducting informational open houses on its proposed North Highline annexation.
The open houses will give residents and businesses in the proposed annexation area the opportunity to learn more about becoming part of the Burien.
The open houses will be Jan. 6 at Shorewood Elementary School, 2725 S.W. 116th St. and Feb. 12 at the Boulevard Park Library, 12015 Roseberg Ave. S. Both meetings will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
The cities of Seattle and Burien recently reached a tentative agreement on proposed boundaries and other elements of the proposed annexation. Next, the annexation proposal will go before the Boundary Review Board of King County, which will make a determination on whether the proposal will proceed.
Information on the agreement between Seattle and Burien, or the annexation in general, is available on the city of Burien Web site at www.burienwa.gov. (Look under departments/community development/current projects/North Highline annexation.)
Residents can insert their address in an electronic form on the Web site and determine if they reside in the Seattle or Burien proposed annexation area.
Residents can also call Burien City Hall at 241-4647 for that information. The city of Burien hopes to see a public vote on its proposed annexation in summer or fall of 2009. Only registered voters in the proposed annexation area are allowed to vote in the election.
